The Parish School offers an educational program for children with average to above average learning potential who have communication and learning differences. Founded in 1983 by Robbin Parish, a speech-language pathologist, it was the first school in Texas to combine early childhood education, speech language pathology, and learning disabilities into an integrated program. Preschool teachers hold a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology and this language support is continued throughout all grade levels. With a low teacher/child ratio, the school serves children from 18 months through fifth grade. Teachers prepare individual educational/treatment plans for each child, focusing on the student’s strengths and learning styles. The Parish School creates a positive, nurturing environment where children develop effective, lifelong communication, learning, and problem-solving skills. Academics are addressed through a developmentally appropriate curriculum, aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Additionally, art, music, drama and physical education are integral parts of the program. Field trips and summer camp are also offered. The Carruth Center at the school provides services by speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists and counselors. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, The Parish School, a licensed non-profit organization, provides scholarships and admits qualified children of any race, color, nationality, or ethnic origin. |
